One of the main problems of a website owner is how to upload his or her files into FTP or what we call the File Transfer Protocol. You cannot upload it into FTP if you don’t have your own hosting, right? Uploading could take time which you need to login into your FTP server and to copy them manually. But there is one software that can copy your files into your server as fast as possible, and we call it as FileZilla. FileZilla is free to download and install, but you need to know how it works when dragging all of your files to the server.
So are you ready?
Here are the following steps to use Filezilla:
Step #1: Open the FileZilla client. Go to File menu and select SiteManager.
Step #2: After you select SiteManager, a new window will open. You have to click New Site and it will appear under the “My Sites” folder.
Step #3: After it appeared under your My Sites folder, you will rename the site by right-clicking the New Site folder and select Rename.
Step #4: On the right side of the SiteManager window, you need to enter the following:
Host: The name of your website (yourdomain.com)
Port: Just leave it blank
Server Type: You must choose “FTP-File Transfer Protocol”
Log-on Type: You must choose “Normal”
User: Your cPanel/FTP username
Password: Your cPanel/FTP password
After you entered the following details, just click Connect. Before you do this, make sure that you already setup your FTP user and password in your hosting.
Step #5: After you click Connect, the SiteManager window will close automatically. You must wait until the software finally connected to your server. You may know that it has already connected when you see some folders appeared on the right side of your software.
Then you are ready to copy files! All you have to do is to drag your files from your designated folder to the designated folder of your choice that appeared in the software. Here is the screenshot below of the Filezilla software that copies all the files from your computer to your hosting server. There are three tabs below namely queued files, failed transfers and successful transfers.
So if you don’t understand these descriptions, I can explain it for you:
Queued files – these are the files that are yet to be transferred from your computer to your hosting server. Or in other words, “Pending” process.
Failed transfers – these are the files that failed to transfer from your computer to your hosting server. Successful transfers – these are the files that wee successfully transferred from your computer to the hosting.
Successful transfers – these are the files that were successfully transferred from your computer to your hosting server.
So I hope you have learned something new today from me, on how to use the FileZilla client. It is safe to use and no detected viruses when you download this software. All you have to do is search FileZilla on Google and download it for free. This is truly recommended for all those who wants to transfer their files from their computer to their hosting server, and it is considered an important tool for our websites.
